I couldn't let the fourth get by without posting a photo of this year's fireworks display, after all, what's the fourth of July without fireworks. This year I finally brought along a tripod, so the quality level of my photos was definitely higher. Of course mother nature almost made the whole excursion an effort of futility, but luckily for everyone the fog rolled in late. Not as late as it could have been, but at least we saw the first half of the display. The Berkeley fireworks are set off on the Berkeley Pier at the waterfront, so if the fog rolls in off the bay as it did that evening, the pier's the first place to disappear. But Friday night began so clear that we were even able to see San Francisco's show get under way. After about 10 minutes, though, those low clouds came rolling in as forecast. At first it was nice, as you can see from my photo above, a few clouds add some depth to the spectacle and make for quite a show as they light up with all the colors of the fireworks. However, in this case more is not better. By the time the finale rolled around, we could hear the fireworks, but we couldn't see a thing. It was sad, but at least we got to enjoy the first half of the evening. NIKON D80
