| There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. In this case, that tunnel was along the cliff walk in Newport, RI. I don't know quite how long the walk is, but we had gone a significant distance, because at this point we were about the only people still walking along for quite some distance, and what had begun as a well maintained concrete and railing path was now basically large rocks and gravel. And of course large drainage pipes/tunnels to cross certain sections as is evidenced here. I don't believe my wife normally walks as if she were on a tight rope as she does here, but it certainly adds in this case to the overall balance of the photo. This image also works quite well in color, but after staring at the two versions for long enough I decided I liked the black and white one better. An interesting thing to note, despite the calm waters, when we emerged back into the light on the far side, there was a surfer paddling out into the bay quite some distance. There were certainly no waves for him, so unless he knew something we didn't, he must have been waiting an awfully long time before coming back in. This photo also seems a fitting choice to mark the end of the east coast series, so I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of our vacation. |
