It can be fun trying different styles of photography from time to time. Normally I'm not much for photojournalism type work, but since there was a protest going on down the street, I decided it'd be a good opportunity to try my hand it. The protest was over a letter the Berkeley City Council sent and then retracted demanding that the marine's recruitment center leave town since it didn't sit well with the city's stance on the war. This brought out folks from both sides for a classic Berkeley style protest. It made national headlines and once again reinforced everyone's views on Berkeley. Oh well.

I feel this photo does a fine job with capturing the spirit and raw emotion of the event, which in my mind is the point of this type of photography. On the one hand you have the girl with her poster yelling for all her might, trying to appeal to everyone's sense of humanity, while on the other hand you have this police officer walking by with a smirk on his face. This kind of sums up the whole event, the protesters were taking everything very seriously, while everyone else was just kind of amused...those Berkeleyites, what will they do next. The police did their job and kept the peace, and eventually the news helicopters left and we were all able to go to sleep.
