The Berkeley Pier is surprisingly long. Seriously, go look at it on a satellite map, it just keeps going and going. In fact, Google fades the image out before it reaches it real end, though at that point it is mostly old ruins. Anyhow, it is always packed with fisherman out trying to catch dinner, or maybe just for fun. Until recently that is. If you haven't kept up on California news, a tanker grazed the bay bridge a couple of weeks ago, spilling tons of oil into the bay. This pretty much stopped most all beach and fishing related activities. I say most, because some people just aren't convinced that eating fish exposed to high concentrations of carcinogens, or surfing on a thin film of oil really are bad ideas. Most of the oil has been removed now, and more and more fisherman are returning to the pier, missing the point that the fish are still not healthy. Here's hoping the fish they catch stayed clear of the spill. In the meantime, I'll keep buying my fish caught further up the coast. NIKON D80
