| This is one of my newest acquisitions, the Celestial Navigator by Bobby Stanfield. Not to say that the kite itself is new, in fact I don't know how old it is. For those unfamiliar with the world of kiting, many of these kites are hand crafted and are truly works of art by any account, often passed from one collector to the next over the years. The attention to detail and craftsmanship that goes into a kite such as the Navigator is simply amazing. To own a kite such as this is truly an honor. When you assemble it for flight you can't help but sense the love poured into it by the artist as they labored over their craft. As with many art collectors, the joy of the collection comes with sharing it with others, which for these kites means flying as often as one can. Sadly winter is coming, and with it rain and muddy fields, so it may be a while until I next get to fly my Celestial Navigator. In the meantime you can enjoy this image of it in flight. |
