Now that's tailgating!

A grill, lots of meat, plenty of beer, a TV, video games, bocce, bags (aka cornhole), and a whole bunch of friends, what more can you really ask for in some pre-game tailgating? Nothing really. There have been two more home games since the last post, and the Bears are still undefeated! This last game the weather was pretty awful, threatening to rain the whole time, but the previous game day was perfect. And to get the game started there were even a bunch of Army parachuters who dove into the stadium right before the players took the field. Go Bears!

This Saturday was the first Cal Bears football game of the season, and my first game in the student section. We were playing the University of Tennessee Volunteers who had beaten us last year. There was a suprising large number of people wearing bright orange that day, many who'd flown all the way out here for the game. I'd never heard so many southern accents in Berkeley before. In fact the total attendence at the game ended up being over 72,000. After our tailgating behind the chemistry department, drinking much beer and eating much meat, we braved the crowds and headed to the stadium. Being in the student section at a game this size is an entirely different experience from a typical football game. For one, there is no sitting except during half time. Along with that, unless your team has the ball, you are constantly yelling and cheering, so things get very very loud. And when the Bears scored a touchdown, get ready because that's when things really get crazy! In the end, the Bears prevailed, and we won the game 45-31, it was a very exciting game. Afterwards, we all stumbled home hoarse, tired, and ready to relax on Sunday.
