Amy's pig is famous now that he's graced the cover of the San Francisco Chronicle's 96 hours section which highlights the weekends coming events. The photo and the article that follows (click the image above for the article) are all about the Berkeley Kite Festival which happens this weekend. In the article, both online and in print, there are also photos of me flying my giant fish kite. What's funny is that despite Tom's (the owner of Highline Kites and festival director) best efforts to coordinate with the media, the Chronicle randomly sent someone with a camera to the park several Mondays ago. Coincidentally, Matt and I happened to be down there flying, and it's a good thing since we were the only ones down there flying. Once we knew who the guy was, I made a point of pulling out some more stuff such as the fish, but sometimes you just can't beat a giant flying pig.

Employed!
SpectraWatt small

Everyone of course knows that I've been job searching for quite a while. Well, for those of you whom I don't talk to regularly, I'm now officially employed. No paycheck yet, but I've signed the contract. I will be starting work with SpectraWatt as a Senior Research Scientist hopefully in August. The company is a solar cell startup that was spun-off of Intel. As such, they are based up in Hillsboro, Oregon, about twenty minutes west of Portland. For the next few months I'll be staying in Berkeley and actually be working in my old lab, while the company's main facilities are being built. Sometime towards the end of the year Amy and I will move north, and I'll help set up the labs there. It's all very exciting, and the details are still a little hazy, but it feels good to be employed.

Fourth of July Festivities
Berkeley Fireworks
(Click photo for more 4th fireworks)

We had a nice fourth this year, complete with corn on the cob, brats and ribs on the grill, and an evening of fireworks. The fog rolled in over the second half of our fireworks display, so we didn't get to see the finale, but I still got some nice photos from the first half. Hope everyone had a great long weekend!
